Celebrating 60 Years of Citroën DS

Citroën enthusiasts all over the world are joyously acknowledging 60 years of DS. The year-long Birthday celebrations begun in January and are set to continue throughout the rest of 2015.

An impressive display at the inaugural London Classic Car show kicked things off with the showcasing of two classic DS cars, the DS21s – a 1972 Prestige and a rare 1966 Décapotable with coachwork by Henri Chapron – and a DS3 and a DS5 from the modern range.  Following on from that, the DS will be taking part in events dedicated to vintage car enthusiasts, such as Techno-Classika (Essen, Germany 15 - 19 April), as well as international motor shows in Geneva (Switzerland, 5 - 15 March), Shanghai (China, 22 - 29 April) and Frankfurt (Germany, 19 - 27 September).

One of the main international events, set to take place on 22 and 23 May at the historic Montlhéry track in France, is set to bring together 700 vintage DS vehicles.

Between 19 and 22 May, the DS brand will be welcoming representatives of its global network to Paris, the home of DS. On the weekend of 23 and 24 May, the brand will be organising events for the general public in the heart of Paris at the Tuileries Garden.

The DS (pronounced Déesse, the French word for Goddess) was launched at the 1955 Paris Motor Show where its avant-garde design stunned show goers. Some 743 orders were taken in the first 15 minutes of the show opening and by the end of the first day that total had risen to an incredible 12,000.

To some it is the most beautiful car of all time, a ‘Goddess.’ To others, it was the most technically advanced car of its era, a revolutionary machine that was years ahead of its time. Today, almost 60 years after its birth, the Citroën DS still has the ability to turn heads like few other classic cars.

The DS story doesn’t end here. Over the next five years the DS range, will excitingly, double in size from today’s trio of models, with an SUV or crossover added to the range.
